Head Coach Peter Russell takes charge of Great Britain for the 75th time this evening in the final game of the World Championship Division I Group A in Romania.

GB face Poland at the Sepsi Arena needing a point to secure the gold medal and promotion to the 2026 World Championship in Switzerland.

Russell, who won seven medals as coach of the under-20s and under-18s, is GB’s most successful coach in history.

He took up the role of Assistant Coach in 2014 and was appointed Head Coach the following Christmas, leading GB to silver medals in Division 1A in 2015 and 2016.

Russell won successive gold medals and promotions in Belfast (2017) and Budapest (2018) as GB reached the top level of the World Championship.

He’s since taken charge of GB at four top-flight World Championship tournaments in Slovakia (2019), Latvia (2021), Finland (2022) and Czechia (2024), as well as adding another gold medal and promotion on home ice in Nottingham in 2023.

He was presented with his 75th cap by IHUK General Secretary Andy French in the locker room as part of a special ceremony which included a speech by GB General Manager Andy Buxton.
