
Ice Hockey UK have appointed Steven Birrell as a new Independent Non-Executive Director (INED) responsible for Communications.
Birrell spent 15 years working with McDonald’s in a range of roles, including PR, public affairs and corporate communications.
After starting in Scotland and Northern Ireland, Birrell undertook a range of leadership roles in the UK and USA, as well as with the McDonald’s global team.
He’s currently Head of External Communications at DC Thomson, which is home to some of the UK’s best-loved media brands.
Away from work, Birrell is a huge fan of Fife Flyers and when living in the USA he spent time watching NHL side Chicago Blackhawks, living just a few blocks down from the United Center.
Birrell said: “Birrell said: “Like so many hockey supporters, I’m an always on advocate for the sport. I want people to experience the excitement, friendship and enjoyment that the sport delivers at all levels.
“It is a privilege to be joining the board of Ice Hockey UK at an exciting and pivotal time with its ambitious strategy to grow the game on and off the ice.
“I bring insights and expertise that I believe can support the great work already ongoing and, particularly, the plans that lie ahead.”
