Great Britain were beaten 5-0 by Cardiff Devils in a warm-up match at the Vindico Arena ahead of next weekend’s Olympic Qualifiers.

GB took the opportunity to ice a selection of experienced and NextGen prospects players, but Kieran Brown missed the game through injury.

Jackson Whistle got the start between the pipes for GB with Lucas Brine as back-up.

Devils lead 2-0 at first intermission
The hosts went ahead through Hunter Shinkaruk’s one-time shot from the slot (4:46).

Zach O’Brien put a penalty shot wide for the Devils and Robert Dowd went close at the other end with a one-timer. 

Devils led by two at the first intermission thanks to a neat finish by Reid Duke on the breakaway (16:45). 

Cardiff stretch their advantage 
Josh Waller was denied by Mac Carruth on a short-handed breakaway and moments later, Josh MacDonald scored with a blast from left-point on the powerplay (27:42).

Defenceman Andrew MacWilliam jumped into the play and fired a neat top-shelf finish past Whistle for Cardiff’s fourth (30:18).

GB responded with a good spell of pressure as Dowd was denied from close range and Ollie Betteridge hit the bar.

Brandt scores Cardiff’s fifth 
GB had spells of powerplay pressure in period three with Ben O’Connor and Cade Neilson going close.

Devils completed the scoring through Riley Brandt’s snipe of a finish (55:59). 

GB play Belfast Giants on Sunday at the Vidinco Arena with face-off at 6pm.
