Great Britain play their fourth game of the Women’s World Championship Division 1 Group B today against long-time rivals Slovenia, as the competition reaches its crucial stages.
Mike Clancy’s team are on four points from their opening three games, tied with Latvia in third place. Slovenia have one more point in the table behind runaway leaders Slovkia.
Last year in Korea, GB and Slovenia went to a shootout in the tournament’s final game after a 3-3 tie in regulation. Lucy Beal, Katie Marsden and Aimee Headland were on target in Suwon just under 12 months ago.
Thursday was the second rest and recovery day at the tournament, GB taking an early morning practice while it was also official photo day – you can see the team photo and some other snaps on our social media channels. After that it was rehab with the athlete support staff and an afternoon of rest and recovery, with a video session before dinner looking ahead to today’s opponents.
Ice Hockey UK TV presented in association with Intermotor had more behind-the-scenes interviews with the staff working in the background to support the players in their on-ice efforts. You can watch the episode below as we spoke with GM Claire Rowbotham, equipment manager Anthony Poutney, team doctor Marina Chitoni and video analyst Jade Cito.
Today’s game faces off at 4pm in Riga, that’s 2pm in the UK and you can watch online via the IIHF You Tube channel. We’ll have in-game updates on our social media channels as well as reaction on IHUK TV tomorrow.
