Great Britain Under-20s Men will face Solway Sharks on Friday 6th September (7:30pm) and Saturday 7th September (7pm).

The games, which will take place at the Dumfries Ice Bowl, will form part of GB’s preparations for next January’s World Championship in Croatia.

GB U20s Men’s Head Coach, Martin Grubb, said: “This will be a very valuable exercise for us as as it will give us an opportunity to see the players in a competitive environment in the build-up to having to select a squad for January’s World Championship.

“I think this works perfectly for both teams as it will help the Sharks get ready for the NIHL season and I can also influence the way both teams play to ensure we are getting the most out of these games.

“I would like to thank Ice Hockey UK for allowing us to have the best preparation for the under-20s and also to John (Strange) and the Sharks organisation for supporting me in making this game happen.”

IHUK CEO, Henry Staelens, said: “On behalf of Ice Hockey UK, I would like to thank Solway Sharks for their assistance.

“Preparation like this is key in helping our under-20s prepare for a major international tournament.”

General Manager of the Sharks, Craig Peacock, said: “We are looking forward to hosting the GB U20s here in Dumfries to end our pre-season preparations ahead of the new campaign.

“I’m sure both games will be competitive and exciting, with players on both squads looking to impress for their own reasons.

“It’s great to be able to help out the national team who have a great relationship with Dumfries having hosted many tournaments here, whilst also giving our fans the chance to see a different squad playing the Sharks outside of our usual league competition.

“We would like to thank IHUK for helping put these games together and look forward to seeing all the fans for a great weekend of hockey.”

GB will face China, Croatia, Lithuania, Netherlands and Romania in the men’s World Championship Division II Group A in Zagreb from 6th to 12th January 2025.
