
Great Britain were beaten 3-0 by second seeds Latvia in their opening game at the Women’s World Championship Division I Group B in Dumfries.
GB peppered 56 shots on the Latvia goal but netminder Kristiana Apsite wasn’t beaten once in a Player of the Game performance.
Two players made their full debuts as Lilly Endicott became the 152nd and Emma Lamberton the 153rd player to represent GB Women.
Nicole Jackson started between the pipes with Ella Howard as back-up.
GB on top in scoreless first period
Ruby Newlands danced her way through the offensive zone and hit the right-hand post inside the first minute
GB dominated much of the first session and Beth Hill cut inside of the left-wing before firing just over.
At the other end, Jackson made a good save low down to deny Liga Miljone.
Latvia lead by two at second intermission
Casey Traill fired just wide from right-point while Lucy Beal and Louise Adams had chances on the powerplay.
Latvia took the lead against the run of play when Madara Saulite pounced to a rebound after Jackson made a good initial save (33:59).
Strong work on the boards created the room for Karina Silajane to to make it 2-0 with a superb one-timer from the slot (38:34).

Miljone seals victory for Latvia
Aimee Headland was denied by Apsite from close-range on the powerplay and then shot just wide from the slot.
Liga Mijone sped down the right-wing and cut inside and after a scramble around the net, she received the puck back from Agnese Apsite to score Latvia’s third (55:17).
Korea next for GB
