Great Britain kept up their 100 per cent record at the Under-18 Women’s World Championship Division II Group A in Riga with a relentless 16-1 victory over New Zealand.

Meeyah Forbes led the way with a hat-trick as 17 different players scored at least a point.

Lucy Holliday made a third-successive start between the pipes with Alisha O’Doherty as back-up.

Five goals for GB in first period
GB went ahead inside the opening five minutes when Ruby Newlands fed Lilly Endicott to score a one-timer from the right-circle on the powerplay (04:26).

It was 2-0 only 85 seconds later thanks to a sweet piece of individual skill from Forbes, who created her own space in the offensive zone and after her initial shot hit a skate, she buried the rebound (05:51).

Strong work on the back boards by Rebecca Voslinsky created GB’s third goal as she fed Tahlia Davidson-Wright who set-up Endicott to fire in her second of the game (14:01).

Cassie McGregor scored on a rebound from close range (16:32) and Milly Thulbourne netted short-side from the left-circle as GB led 5-0 at the first intermission.

GB continue their domination with five unanswered goals
O’Doherty replaced Holliday in the GB net at the start of the second period for her first action of the tournament.

McGregor’s deflected pass from the right-wing fell to Emma Lamberton to score on the powerplay (21:03), while Lydia Lutwyche converted with a neat wraparound for GB’s seventh (26:17).

GB scored three times in 48 seconds as Lamberton, McGregor and Forbes all netted their second goals of the afternoon.

Lamberton buried the puck on the rebound (33:09), McGregor slid the puck under the netminder on the doorstep (33:43) and Forbes scored on the backhand after a goalmouth scramble (33:57).

Tahlia Davidson-Wright scored at the backdoor (39:53) as GB stretched their lead to 11-0 after two periods.

GB ease to huge victory
New Zealand got on the board within 14 seconds of the restart through Jess Ryall’s close-range finish (40:14).

GB scored twice in 80 seconds through Lutwyche’s backhand finish (42:18) and a one-timer by Newlands from the right-circle (43:38).

Perseverance in front of the net saw Forbes completed her hat-trick (46:15) and Thulbourne netted a neat shot on the backhand (48:57).

Alisha Potts completed the scoring when she cut across the zone and fired the puck into the bottom left-hand corner (52:23).

After tomorrow’s rest day, GB are back in action on Saturday against hosts Latvia at 19:30 (17:30 GMT).
