Great Britain beat Spain 4-3 after penalty-shots at iceSheffield in a challenge game ahead of next week’s women’s Olympic Qualifiers.
It’s the first of two warm-up games for GB with a match against Netherlands taking place on Tuesday (20:10 face-off), also in iceSheffield.
Ella Howard got the start between the pipes with Emma Nichols as back-up.
Indira Bosch puts the visitors ahead (12:23) and Laura Horwood equalised for GB on the powerplay (16:13).
Lidia Romero scored for Spain early in the second period (23:57), before Nichols replaced Howard in the GB goal.
Katie Marsden made it 2-2 on the powerplay (41:29) but Spain went ahead for a third time with Laura Gil Guerra on target (50:34).
GB lifted Nichols for the extra skater and Ellin Rees netted a dramatic equaliser with 20 seconds remaining (59:40).
There were no goals in overtime and Emily Harris scored the game-winning penalty-shot in sudden-death.
Women’s Olympic Qualifiers
GB face Netherlands, Spain and Latvia at the Bauer Arena in iceSheffield from Thursday 12th to Sunday 15th December.
The winners will progress to Final Olympic Qualifying in February 2025 for a place at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.
Admission to the tournament is via Day Tickets which covers two matches a day and cost just £15 (plus fees) for adults.
Concession tickets (over-65s and under-16s) will be on sale for only £8 (plus fees).
