Great Britain produced a scintillating performance to beat Slovenia 8-2 and secure a second successive win at the Women’s World Championship Division I Group B in Dumfries.

There were first GB goals for Ruby Newlands and Robin Mullen on a memorable night at the Dumfries Ice Bowl.

After her 20-shot shutout against Kazakhstan on Saturday night, Nicole Jackson started between the pipes with Ella Howard as back-up.

GB led by one at the first intermission as Newlands cut across the slot to score on her backhand (16:31).

Sara Confidenti scored on her backhand on a breakaway to equalise (21:26) but just 70 seconds later, Newlands fed Katie Marsden who drove the net to put GB back ahead (22:36).

It was two goals for GB in 39 seconds when Casey Traill beat Tjasa Intihar with a bullet from the blueline (23:15), before Mullen netted from the right-circle (32:04).

Confidenti scored a rebound from close-range for her second of the night (41:59), but Chamonix Jackson buried the puck after a goalmouth scramble for GB’s fifth (44:29).

Jodie Alderson-Smith’s shot towards net took a deflection and looped into the net (47:27) and Marsden fed Louise Adams on the doorstep to make it 7-2 (49:37).

Rachel Cartwright scored GB’s eighth and final goal as she forced the puck over the line from close-range (57:25).

There’s no action tomorrow but GB return to action on Tuesday against Italy, who clinched the gold medal and promotion today with a 7-0 win over Korea.
