Evan Mosey celebrates winning promotion with Great Britain at the 2023 World Championship in Nottingham

Evan Mosey has announced his retirement from international ice hockey.

Mosey won 42 caps for Great Britain, scoring six goals and contributing 18 assists for 24 points, and was part of many of key moments in the national side’s recent success.

The 36-year-old won two gold medals and one silver during his eight-year international career.

Mosey made his debut for GB in 2016 in a 4-1 victory over Croatia as GB secured the silver medal in the World Championship Division I Group B in Zagreb, Croatia.

He scored his first goal for GB the following year in the opening game of the 2017 World Championship Division I Group B in Belfast – a 4-2 win over Croatia.

Mosey also netted against Estonia and Lithuania as GB won all five games to win gold and promotion on home ice.

He represented GB three times in the top-flight of the World Championship in Slovakia (2019), Finland (2022) and Czechia (2024).

Mosey, who played defence and forward for GB, was part of the gold-medal success and promotion on home ice in Nottingham in 2023 and played in two Olympic Qualifying campaigns.

“It has been a privilege to play for Great Britain and to be involved in so many big moments in the national side’s history,” said Mosey.

“The bond created on and off the ice can never be underestimated and I am proud to be part of such a special team.

“There are so many moments that we can all look back on with pride and it was such a honour to represent Great Britain.

“Playing in the top flight three times against the best teams in the world is obviously the highlight.

“I know I will miss playing for GB but the time is right to stand down from the national side. Good luck to the boys in Romania. I will be watching closely and cheering them on.”

GB Head Coach, Pete Russell, said: “Evan has been an outstanding player for the national team and one I could rely on to play different roles.

“He brought so much to the team over his eight years and has been a crucial part of our big moments.

“Evan has been outstanding on and off the ice for us and I’d like to thank him for his time with Great Britain. We are going to miss him on and off the ice.”

Ice Hockey UK CEO, Henry Staelens, said: “Congratulations to Evan for his outstanding contribution to Great Britain.

“He has been a standout player for GB for nearly a decade and I’d like to wish him good luck in the future.”
