Great Britain began their campaign at the under-20s Watersley International Ice Hockey Tournament with a 4-0 victory over Belgium at the Glanerbrook Ice Rink.

It was commanding performance from start to finish as netminder Alfie Jefferis secured an impressive shutout.

GB took the lead in the first period as Jacob White-Sey’s shot was tipped-in by Finley Bradon (7:08).

Britain killed-off seven penalties in the first session included two minutes of five-on-three.

After a scramble around the net, the puck fell to Brodie Kay who scored GB’s second goal early in period two (21:43).

GB made it 3-0 at the start of the third session as good cycling of the puck on the powerplay set-up Bradon to score from the top of the right-circle (40:48).

Bradon sent an arrow of a pass through to Sebastian Mohr who scored on one knee from the left-circle to complete the scoring (58:20).

Head Coach, Martin Grubb, said: “Today was a good workout. It was important for us to play together and we knew we would have plenty to work on.

“We started slow and played way too indisciplined in the first period, but our penalty-kill was good including a full two-minute five-on-three.

“We got the early goal in the second and grew into the game more. We started to create chances and perhaps should have scored a few more goals.

“We felt we dominated the third period especially as we could roll our four lines. Every line created chances and started to execute our systems better.

“We probably should have won more comfortably but it’s always positive when you don’t concede and credit to Alfie for his shutout.”

GB next face Kölner Haie tomorrow (19:30 BST) before rounding-off the tournament against hosts Netherlands (13:00 BST).
