Great Britain were beaten 7-0 by Italy in a Challenge Game at the Dumfries Ice Bowl ahead of the Women’s World Championship getting under way next week.

It was the first of two warm-up games for GB with a meeting with Kazakhstan to follow on Sunday before the tournament begins on Wednesday.

Matilde Fantin (21:48) and Anna Caumo (30:06) scored powerplay goals to give Italy a two-goal lead, before Kristin Della Rovere made it 3-0 (33:33).

GB swapped netminders at the second intermission with Ella Howard replacing Nicole Jackson.

Kristen Guerriero scored short-handed (41:12) and Kayla Tutino (49:23) was also on target as Italy stepped up the pace in the third period.

Guerriero netted on the powerplay (51:57) and Greta Niccolai scored with just under three minutes remaining (57:24).

GB are hosting the Women’s World Championship Division I Group B in Dumfries next week (9th to 15th April).

Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Korea and Slovenia complete the six-team group with the winners being promoted to the second tier.
