LATVIA 4-3 GREAT BRITAIN

Great Britain secured a point but Latvia edged out a 4-3 overtime victory on day three of the Women’s World Championship Division I Group B in Puigcerdà.

Nicole Jackson started between the pipes and made 39 saves, while Ella Howard came back into the line-up as back-up.

GB scored twice in 22 seconds as a neat move on the doorstep by Chamonix Jackson (10:00) was followed by Katherine Gale scoring from close-range after a goalmouth scramble (10:22).

But Latvia hit back thanks to a Liga Miljone hat-trick to turn the game on its head which was started when she cut inside off the right-wing to beat Jackson (31:57).

Miljone scored on the powerplay from the right-circle under two minutes later (33:24) and completed her treble when she superbly broke clear of the GB defence in the opening stages of the third period (40:48).

GB had to kill-off over a minute of a five-on-three penalty-kill and it swung the momentum as Katie Marsden swung out from behind and although her shot saved saved, Louise Adams buried the rebound (49:45).

Latvia secured the extra point in overtime as Linda Rulle scored a close-range rebound (63:36).

GB are second in the group with six points from three matches and three points behind leaders Netherlands.
