SPAIN v GREAT BRITAIN

Great Britain beat Spain 6-1 on Friday evening to set-up a gold-medal game with Korea in the men’s U20 World Championship Division II Group A at Dumfries Ice Bowl.

Jack Hopkins scored twice to take his tally to five goals for the tournament, while Carter Hamill also grabbed a double.

GB now meet Korea on Sunday (4:30pm face-off) knowing a regulation-time victory will see them promoted to Division I.

Hamill and Hopkins give GB first-period lead
GB took an early lead after only 40 seconds when Mack Stewart won the puck and fed Hamill in the slot (00:40).

Strong work from Stewart on the forecheck set-up Hopkins to make it 2-0 short-handed inside the first eight minutes (7:17).

Beattie and Brown make it 4-1 to GB
Jose Blanco tipped-in Bosco Collado’s shot to close the gap for Spain (29:31) on the powerplay, before Archie Hazeldine fed Kell Beattie in the left circle to restore GB’s two-goal lead, also with the man advantage (34:14).

GB scored their fourth goal of the night – another powerplay goal – when Ben Brown created space for himself on the right-hand side and sent a neat wrist-shot past Roberto Mampel (36:33).

Hamill and Hopkins complete doubles
GB netminder Ben Norton saved a Ivan Garkusha penalty-shot in the third session, before Hamill reacted first to a rebound for his second of the night (55:34).
