UK official Danny Beresford has been selected to officiate at the 2025 World Championship taking place in Sweden and Denmark.

Beresford has been selected as one of 16 linespeople for the showpiece event in the yearly ice hockey calendar.

He said: “I’m grateful for the opportunity to be going back to the World Championship. It’s a perfect way to top-off an enjoyable season in the Elite League.

“It has, of course, been made possible thanks to the continuous support this year from all my team-mates, our Head of Hockey Operations Liam Sewell, and also by Michael Hicks who helped me greatly both on and off the ice in previous seasons.”

Sewell himself will also be working at this year’s event after being selected by the IIHF to assist in the tournament’s Situation Room.

He previously officiated at the top level of world ice hockey and worked the bronze-medal game in the 2023 World Championship.

The Situation Room will be in direct contact with game officials in both venues for video review decisions.

“I’m thrilled to be part of the Situation Room team for this event,” said Sewell.

“Working at the highest tournament in world ice hockey this season – alongside some very experienced and knowledgeable colleagues – will be hugely beneficial. I’m excited to see what I can learn to bring back to the Elite League.”

Henry Staelens, Chief Executive Officer of IHUK, said: “We are incredibly proud to see British officials continuing to be recognised at the highest level of international ice hockey.

“Danny’s on-ice excellence and Liam’s expertise in the Situation Room reflect the growing standard of officiating across UK hockey.

“Liam’s appointment also highlights the strength and visibility of our domestic game, his leadership within the Elite League showcases the calibre of talent we have here in the UK.

“Their selections are a credit to their dedication and we look forward to seeing them represent the UK with distinction.”

Colin Davison, IHUK Referee in Chief, added: “Danny’s selection is thoroughly deserved and is a testament to his hard work, professionalism, and consistency over a number of seasons.

“It’s equally fantastic to see Liam contributing his experience in such a pivotal off-ice role.

“Both individuals set a strong example for officials across the country and continue to raise the bar for British refereeing.”

IHUK wishes both every success in Denmark and Sweden as they represent British ice hockey on the world stage.
