Great Britain ended day one of the under-16 men’s Riga Hockey Cup with two wins from their opening two matches.

It means GB have the maximum six points going into tomorrow’s final day of group matches.

NEXT Hockey 2-3 Great Britain
Great Britain started their Riga Hockey Cup campaign with a 3-2 victory over NEXT Hockey.

Theo Malone put GB ahead (2:14) before Teodoras Jokubas Udras equalised (13:33).

Harry Vant scored the only goal of the second period  (20:31) and Daragh Spawforth made it 3-1 in the third session (35:56).

Aleksis Tīrums reduced the arrears for NEXT (37:33), but GB held solid to secure a win in their opening game.

Great Britain 6-0 Pelicans 
Great Britain made it two wins from two at the Riga Hockey Cup with a 6-0 victory over Pelicans.

Ricards Misins put GB ahead on the powerplay (11:42) with the only goal of the first period.

Oskar Sagan made it two (23:55) before Misins scored his second of the game (27:22).

Three goals in just under four minutes in the third period made the game safe with Josh Poole (41:10), Daragh Spawforth (42:21) and Theo Malone (44:54) all on target.

Head Coach, Jamie Elson, said: It’s been a really positive first day for sure. The group has really bought in, worked hard and there has been an excellent atmosphere around the team.

“But tomorrow will get a lot tougher for sure. We have four games in one day and that’s a hard schedule, especially the way we want to play.

“We are really going to need everyone on the group contributing for sure. We will rest up tonight and meet in the morning ready to keep building.”
