Great Britain were beaten 1-0 by Netherlands in overtime in the final game of the women’s Olympic Qualifiers in iceSheffield.
It means Netherlands progress through to Final Qualifying for the 2026 Winter Olympics and GB finish in second in the four-team group after wins over Latvia and Spain.
GB forward Katie Henry had an early chance but her close-range shot at the backdoor was saved by Eline Gabriele.
Howard makes two big stops to deny Julie Zwarthoed and Aimee Seepenwolde as Netherlands ended the period strongly, while Ellin Rees threw herself in-front of a goalbound puck.
GB had the better chances in the second session as Abbie Sylvester’s shot from the blueline was saved and Katie Marsden dived for a bobbling puck but Gabriele stood firm.
Marsden and Katherine Gale went close as the period came to a close and Gabriele made a pad save to stop Beth Hill on a breakaway.
Netherlands killed off just under two minutes of a five-on-three as GB had chances for Marsden and Jodie Alderson-Smith on the two-player advantage.
The game went to overtime and Netherlands scored on a late powerplay when Howard made a great save, but Savine Wielenga bundled home the rebound for the game-winner (64:14).
